Shri Shantanu Thakur, Hon’ble Union Minister of State for Ports, Shipping and Waterways, laid foundation stone for construction of loop line with new platform no. 3 and extension of platform no. 1 and 2 with ancillary works at Thakurnagar Station of Sealdah-Bongaon section of Eastern Railway.

As a part of Railway’s endeavour towards infrastructure development at different stations vis-a-vis capacity augmentation, Shri Shantanu Thakur, Hon’ble Union Minister of State for Ports, Shipping and Waterways, laid foundation stone for construction of loop line with new platform no. 3 and extension of platform no. 1 and 2 with ancillary works at Thakurnagar station of Sealdah-Bongaon section (30.10.2023). Shri Deepak Nigam, Divisional Railway Manager, Sealdah and other dignitaries were also present on the occasion.
Project in Brief:
- In the proposed work, an electrified common loop line having length of 755 metres will be constructed along with construction of platform number 3 on the loop line.
- Both the existing platforms, platform no. 1 & platform no. 2 presently having 275 metres length will be extended along with the construction of the new platform no. 3 so that all the platforms have a length of at least 600 metres and can easily accommodate 24 coach rakes.
- Besides, the ancillary work includes self sufficient platform shade along with sitting arrangement for all the platforms, new wide foot over bridge of 6.50 metre width, construction of new electronic interlocking building & construction of VIP lounge and development of circulating area at Thakurnagar station.
- All these works aim to bring world class facilities and amenity for the passengers at Thakurnagar at an estimated project cost of Rs. 29.80 Crores.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri Shantanu Thakur, Hon’ble Minister of State said that the Union Government always tries to bring development even at the remotest areas. These infrastructure augmentation facilities at Thakurnagar will surely make this station an economic hub for the locality in future. The world standard facility available at the station can be enjoyed by the passengers towards fulfilment of the long cherished demand of the local inhabitants.
Thakurnagar station situated at a distance of 63 kilometres from Sealdah i.e. Kolkata city and 18.60 kilometres by rail route from the Petrapole station near Bangladesh border. Thus, this station has an importance both in terms of domestic requirement and also in terms of business development with neighbouring countries.
The station development initiative of the Union Government will certainly create a plethora of socio-economic development in this region through a flush of funds for such development work at Thakurnagar as well as transforming the station into a city centre as well as a business hub for bringing local products to the local scenario.
