Kolkata Metro nears completion of Orange Line station construction from IT Centre to City Centre-II

The 90% construction work of different metro stations stretching from IT Centre to City Centre-II of the Orange Line has been completed. This section is a crucial component of the Kolkata Metro’s Kavi Subhash-Jai Hind (Airport) Corridor, on completion it will significantly enhance connectivity and streamlining transit across the region.

The construction work of different Metro stations o­n Kavi Subhash- Jai Hind (Airport) Corridor of Orange Line is going o­n in full swing. The stations coming up at New Town-Rajarhat have seen a major progress in recent times. Civil Engineering work of most of the stations o­n this particular stretch are 90% completed. Once commissioned, these stations are going to cater to thousands of passengers, tourists and office goers in the coming days.

Benefits for the Passengers:

  • Metro services o­n this stretch are going to decongest traffic o­n the busiest roads of Kolkata and make commuting from New Town-Rajarhat to other parts of Kolkata very easy.
  • New Town- Rajarhat, a state-of-the-art township built for business and residential purposes is going to become o­ne of the nerve centres of economic activities of eastern India.
  • Keeping that in mind, the Government of India is planning to extend Metro services in this township.
  • After much dilly-dallying, significant progress has been made in recent times in this Metro project which is popularly known as Orange Line of Kolkata Metro.
  • Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi already dedicated 5.40 kms project from Kavi Subhash to Hemanta Mukhopadhyay to the service of the nation o­n 06.03.2024.
  • Furthermore another 4.39 kms of stretch from Hemanta Mukhopadhyay to Beleghata has already got CCRS authorisation for commissioning. Commercial services o­n this extended stretch will start very soon.

Recent Progress:

  • Rest of the work of this Corridor, which is 28.90 kms long has been going o­n smoothly.
  • The Civil Engineering work of the stretch from IT Centre to City Centre-II is 90% complete.
  • Electrical and Signal & Telecommunications works at these stations are now in progress.
  • O­n this stretch, there will be 10 stations which have been built by blending art and culture of the area with modern technology.
  • The station buildings and their decorations will add up to the beauty of New Town and Rajarhat township.

Amenities to be Provided:

  • It is to be noted that apart from the soothing look, all these stations are going to have state-of-the-art passenger amenities like escalators, lifts, staircases, drinking water facilities, toilets, modern platforms, Automatic Smart Card Recharge Machines (ASCRM) for self-ticketing facility.
  • Public Address System, digital display boards, emergency lighting facility for the convenience of the passengers, tactile floor indicators for the blind will be some other added amenities here.

The progress made by Kolkata Metro marks the near completion of the much awaited Orange Line station construction project.
