Minister of State for Railways, Shri Raosaheb Patil Danve inspects ongoing Agartala – Akhaura rail link project between India and Bangladesh

During his o­ngoing visit to Tripura, Shri Raosaheb Patil Danve, Hon’ble Minister of State of Railways, Coal & Mines conducted a review meeting with N. F. Railway (Open Line & Construction) officials o­n 21st April, 2022 to inquire about the progress of all o­ngoing railway projects in the Northeast and other developmental works.

More details:

  • During the meeting, he stressed upon completion of all the projects within the stipulated time frame. Shri Danve, o­n 22nd April, 2022 also inspected and reviewed the o­ngoing Agartala – Akhaura rail link project connecting Nischintapur (Agartala, Tripura) to Akhaura (Bangladesh).
  • He also inspected Nischintapur station yard of the Agartala – Akhaura rail link project where a passenger and cargo terminal to facilitate international travellers are being constructed.
  • The station yard, equipped with modern amenities will serve the purpose of Indo – Bangladesh trade along with transhipment facility of goods and passengers. Further, the station yard will be used for security purpose and document checking of passengers to and from Bangladesh.
  • Once the o­ngoing rail link project is complete, North-eastern part of India would be connected with Bangladesh via Tripura through railways. This is expected to give trade, commerce and economic activities of this landlocked region a much desired boost. 
  • New railway line between India and Bangladesh will also reduce the travel time between Agartala to Kolkata significantly. Goods carrying trains from various parts of India can reach NE region via Bangladesh with much lesser transportation cost.
  • Shri Danve also interacted with media persons o­n o­ngoing railway projects and other infrastructure developmental works during a Press Meet at State Guest House, Agartala.
