Hyderabad Metro recognised for green and sustainable system at the 3rd Rail Analysis Innovation & Excellence Summit 2022

L&T Metro Rail (Hyderabad) Limited (L&T MRHL) was recognised with the “Excellence in Green and Sustainable Metro System” at the 3rd Rail Analysis Innovation & Excellence Summit 2022 organized at a gala event in New Delhi on 6th April. 

  • Mr. Sudhir Chiplunkar, Chief Operating Officer (COO), L&T MRHL received this award on behalf of Hyderabad Metro Rail.
  • This recognition was accorded to L&T MRHL as an acknowledgment of the  substantial progress in making its metro project green and sustainable by utilizing clean energy and reducing the impact on the environment, significantly.

Speaking on this recognition, Mr. KVB Reddy, MD & CEO, L&TMRHL, said, “We are happy to have been recognized for our green efforts by Rail Analysis. It goes a long way in reaffirming our commitment towards environment sustainability and continuously elevating the green footprint by providing Hyderabad Metro Rail as an eco-friendly transport option  to the citizens of Hyderabad.”

  • As a green transportation system, Hyderabad Metro Rail has been utilizing the alternate  source of energy to reduce carbon footprint and garner indirect advantage with a focus on an environmentally sustainable mode of operations. 
  • As part of its green initiatives, Hyderabad Metro Rail has 8.35 MWp of captive solar plants installed at open spaces within their metro depots and on the rooftops of approx. 28 metro stations. 
  • Hyderabad Metro Rail also taps energy from its innovative Regenerative Braking System of metro trains with over 35% energy regeneration. 
  • As many as 20 metro stations of Hyderabad Metro Rail are IGBC (Indian Green Building Council) Platinum rated. 
  • Hyderabad Metro Rail has over 150 water-harvesting pits conserving water and restoring  groundwater table. 
  • Both Uppal & Miyapur depots are zero discharge, water, and energy surplus premises.

About L&T Metro Rail (Hyderabad) Limited:

  • L&T Metro Rail (Hyderabad) Limited is a subsidiary of Larsen & Toubro. 
  • L&T Metro Rail (Hyderabad) Limited (“The Company”) to implement the Project on Design, Built, Finance Operate and Transfer (DBFOT) basis. 
  • The Company signed the Concession Agreement with the then Government of Andhra Pradesh on September 4, 2010 and completed the financial closure for the Project on March 1, 2011 in a record period of six months. 
  • A consortium of 10 banks led by State Bank of India has sanctioned the entire debt requirement of the project. 
  • This is the largest fund tie-up in India for a non-power infrastructure Public Private Partnership (PPP) project.
