Shri Satish Kumar visits Chittaranjan Locomotive Works to assess and inspire further innovations in rail traction and rolling stock

In a significant visit to Chittaranjan Locomotive Works (CLW), Shri Satish Kumar, Member (Traction & Rolling Stock) of the Railway Board, accompanied by Shri H. Malhotra, General Manager, embarked on a two-day inspection to Heritage Loco Park & Museum along with the workshop and observed detailed presentations on CLW.

The Railway Board Member of (Traction & Rolling Stock), Shri Satish Kumar visited Chittaranjan Locomotive Works (CLW) on 26th & 27th April, 2024. On the first day of visit, Shri Kumar visited the Deshbandhu Heritage Loco Park & showed around the rich preserved heritage history of locomotives showcased within the heritage precinct and the captivating exhibits of the Amrit Digital gallery. During the visit he was accompanied by Shri Hitendra Malhotra, General Manager; Shri Mohit Chandra, Principal Executive Director/Electrical Engineering (Rolling Stock)/Railway Board and Principal Heads of Departments.

Key Highlights of the Visit:

  • On the second day of his visit, a tree plantation programme was organised in the Ganapati Memorial premises wherein he planted sampling.
  • Later, he visited various shops inside the workshop covering Shell, Bogie, Traction Motors & Loco Assembly Shops and showed around the manufacturing activities during the visit.
  • He chaired a meeting with unions and association representatives in the conference room of the administrative building and discussed various important matters. Sri Kumar also visited the Heritage Museum in the Administrative office premises & appreciated the exhibits preserved.
  • Later, he chaired a meeting in the conference room with the General Manager and Principal Heads of Departments and discussed various topics including failure analysis of locomotives by a presentation.

CLW Produced 580 Locos in FY 2023-24:

For the financial year 2023-24, CLW was given a production target of 540 locomotives. At the end of FY 2023-24, on 31st March, 2024 CLW achieved the production of a total 580 locomotives. This is the highest locomotive production figure in any financial year in the history of CLW.

The visit of Shri Satish Kumar not only highlighted CLW’s historic and ongoing contributions to Indian railways but also set the stage for future innovations in locomotive technology and railway operations.
