Banaras Railway Engine Factory sets new record with 475 Rail engines produced in FY 2023-24

The Banaras Railway Engine Factory achieved a remarkable feat by surpassing its previous record, constructing 475 railway engines in the fiscal year 2023-24, exceeding the set target of 460 engines by the Railway Board.

More Details:

This achievement is the record of the highest and unique loco production in any financial year. Bareka has manufactured 470 electric rail engines and 5 diesel railway engines for Indian domestic customers. Since its installation, Bareka has so far manufactured a total of 10210 rail engines including a total of horsepower diesel (alco and high power) as well as electric rail engines. Including 1895 electric rail engine, 2467 high horsepower diesel, 5031 alco rail engine, 636 rail engines for non-railway customers in India, 172 exported rail engines, 8 conversions and 1 dual mode rail engine.

Recent Achievements:

  • Remarkable that the 10,000th Locomotive built by Bareka was dedicated to the nation by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi in compliance with the guidelines obtained by the Railway Board, was dedicated to the nation.
  • In addition to this in January 2024, Bareka made a new record by producing 55 electric rail engines, the highest production figure ever achieved in any month.
  • Bareka committed to not only production of excellent rail engines and energy conservation has contributed importantly while performing its responsibility towards the green environment.
  • Bareka has been storing thousands of litres of rainwater per year through Soak Pete construction and using solar energy to maintain underground water transmission and also recorded a 22.33 percent reduction in grid electricity consumption.

Future Targets:

  • The Banaras Rail Engine Factory has set a target to make 500 electric rail engines by the Ministry of Railways in the new fiscal year 2024-25.
  • General Manager Mr. Basudev Panda himself reached the shop floor among the officers and staff and congratulated on the occasion of the end of the fiscal year 2023-24 that achieving this highest production target is the result of the tireless work of Bareka’s staff, staff and female personnel Strongly accepting the challenge given by the Railway Board, stated with full confidence that Bareka will successfully achieve this ambitious goal as well.
