Chennai Metro Update: Detailed Feasibility Reports (DFR) submitted for introducing Mass Rapid Transport Systems (MRTS) in Tiruchirappalli, Tirunelveli and Salem

Detailed Feasibility Reports (DFR) for introducing Mass Rapid Transport Systems (MRTS) in Tiruchirappalli, Tirunelveli and Salem were submitted by Mr. M.A.Siddique, I.A.S., Principal Secretary to Government, Managing Director, CMRL to Mr. Ramesh Chand Meena, I.A.S., Additional Chief Secretary, Special Initiatives, Government of Tamil Nadu at CMRL MetroS, Anna Salai, Nandanam.

More Details:

  • Mr. T. Archunan, Director (Projects), Mr. T. Livingstone Eliazer, Chief General Manager (PP & D), Tmt. Rekha Prakash, CGM (PD) and Senior Officials of CMRL were present during the occasion.
  • Proposed Salient features of Detailed Feasibility Reports (DFR) for introducing Mass Rapid Transport Systems (MRTS) in Tiruchirappalli, Tirunelveli and Salem are as follows.

Tiruchirappalli:

  • The proposed detailed feasibility report for introducing Mass Rapid Transit Systems (MRTS) for Tiruchirappalli for a total of 45 kms consists of two corridors, Corridor 1 consists of 19 kms from Samayapuram to Vayaloor with proposed 19 Stations, and Corridor 2 consists of 26 kms from Thuvakudi to Panjapur with proposed 26 Stations. During further study at the DPR stage, the total number of stations for each route will be finalised.

Tirunelveli:

  • The proposed detailed feasibility report for introducing Rapid Transit Systems (RTS) for Tirunelveli for a total of 39.07 kms consists of three corridors, Corridor 1 consists of 12.39 kms from Pettai to Sankanapuram with proposed 13 Stations, and Corridor 2 consists of 12.03 kms from Palayamkottai to Ponnakudi with proposed 12 Stations and Corridor 3 consists of 14.65 kms from Sankarnagar to Vasanthnagar with proposed 15 Stations. Further study at the DPR stage, the total number of stations for each route will be finalised.

Salem:

  • The proposed detailed feasibility report for introducing suitable Rapid Transit Systems (RTS) for Salem for a total of 35.19 kms consists of three corridors, Corridor 1 consists of 17.16 kms from Karapuranathar Temple to Ayodhyapattanam Railway Station via Ammapet with proposed 19 Stations, and Corridor 2 consists of 18.03 kms from Karuppur to Nallikalapatty via Salem Junction. Railway Station with proposed 19 Stations. Following extensive alignment study at the DPR stage, the total number of stations for each route will be finalised.
