Commissioner of Railway Safety inspects Unkal – Hulkoti Railway Electrification Work

Shri A.K. Rai, Commissioner of Railway Safety, Southern Circle, Bengaluru conducted statutory inspection of Unkal-Hulkoti Railway Electrification work on 17.12.2021. The 47 Route KM length of Unkal-Hulkoti Railway Electrification is a part of Hosapete-Hubballi-Londa-Vasco Da Gama Electrification project. 

  • It is being executed by Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd. (RVNL).  
  • Shri A.K. Rai inspected the Electrified section and checked various safety parameters.  
  • He inspected Unkal, SSS Hubballi, Kusugal, Hebsur, Sisvinahalli, Navalgund and Annigeri stations. He inspected Foot Over Bridges, Road Over Bridge, Level Crossing gates, Major & Minor Bridges, Curves in the section
  • He also inspected Sectioning Post (SP) at Sisvinahalli and Sub sectioning & Paralleling Posts (SSPs) at Kusugal & Annigeri.  
  • A short circuit test was conducted at Hulkoti.   
  • Later a Speed Trial with Electric Loco was conducted from Hulkoti to Unkal.
  • Shri Arvind Malkhede, Hubballi Divisional Railway Manager; Shri Manoj Mahajan, Principal Chief Electrical Engineer; Shri Dinesh Jain, General Manager, RVNL; Shri Srinivasulu, Joint General Manager/RVNL and other Officers were present.
  • Electrification will significantly improve mobility of trains o­n SWR and strengthen the Rail network in Karnataka. 

Devarapalle-Hindupur Double Line: 

The new 10.7 Km double line with 25 KV Electrified section from Devarapalle to Hindupur was commissioned o­n 15.12.2021 after Statutory inspection and speed Trial by Shri Abhai Kumar Rai, Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) southern Circle. It is a part of Yelahanka – Penukonda doubling project.

  • The works completed between Devarapalle-Hindupur under this project are, o­ne additional goods loop line with concreted loading Platform at Devarapalle.
  • Devarapalli ph-III and Final yard commissioning with five road with doubling towards Hindupur station, Hindupur ph I yard commissioning with three road with doubling towards Devarapalle station in Phase I.
  • Yelahanka-Penukonda doubling project was sanctioned in 2015-16 at Rs.860.43 Crs. 
  • A total of about 82 Kms of doubling is completed with the commissioning of Devarapalle-Hindupur Section in this Yelahanka-Penukonda project. 
  • The work of commissioning of Hindupur-Penukonda section for a length of 38 Kms is o­n fast progress.
  • Yelahanka-Penukonda Railway line connects major routes leading to Mumbai, Delhi and other important places.  
  • Major trains like Rajdhani Express, Karnataka Express run along this line.
  • Commissioning of this section will enhance the line capacity and improve speed and punctuality of trains.  
  • It will also reduce the dependence o­n fossil fuels.
