Shri Dinesh Shukla, IRSME, visits Braithwaite & Co. Ltd, Kolkata to inspect new developments and inaugurate wagons

Shri Dinesh Shukla, IRSME, Principal Executive Director (Rolling Stock) of the Research Design and Standards Organisation (RDSO), made a significant visit to Braithwaite & Co. Limited in Kolkata on 12th April 2024, where he was warmly welcomed by the top executives of the company.

During his visit, Shri Shukla met with Md. Asad Alam, Chairman and Managing Director, along with Dr. Sunil Kumar Sharma, Director (Production) at Braithwaite’s Corporate Office. The leadership team presented the company’s recent achievements and outlined future plans, emphasising their commitment to innovation and quality in manufacturing.The highlight of the visit was Shri Shukla’s tour of the Kolkata workshop facilities, where he inspected the latest products being manufactured. He expressed his appreciation for the craftsmanship and achievements of the Braithwaite team. Furthermore, Shri Shukla officially inaugurated the new BVCM type wagons, also known as Brake-Vans attached to rakes, and a 400 Tons PLC controlled Hydraulic Press Brake Machine—recent additions aimed at enhancing the company’s manufacturing capabilities.

The event was well-attended by senior officials from both Braithwaite & Co. Ltd and RDSO, as well as numerous employees who had the opportunity to engage directly with these high-level visitors.

Background:

Braithwaite & Co. Limited had received orders for manufacture of 500 BVCM type wagons (also known as Brake-Vans attached to rakes) from the Ministry of Railways last month. The first BVCM wagon manufactured at Clive (Kolkata) Works of the Company was inaugurated on 04.03.2024 by Md. Asad Alam, Chairman and Managing Director & Dr. Sunil Kumar Sharma, Director (Production), Braithwaite & Company Limited. The wagon was manufactured within a record period of 20 days, which is a milestone.
