Southern Railway registers robust growth in freight segment in the first half of the financial year 2022-23

Southern Railway records robust growth in freight segment, 19.132 Million Tonnes of Originating Freight loading achieved in the first half of 2022-23 recording 34.92% increase over last year.

More details:

  • Originating freight earnings of Rs.1766 Crores in April – September 2022 witnessed 37.78% increase, In September 2022, Southern Railway attained 2.938 MT of freight loading, an increase of 13.6% over September 2021 loading.
  • Witnessing continuous progress in the freight segment year-on-year, Southern Railway’s freight figures rose substantially in the first half of the current fiscal.
  • The Zone attained Originating Freight Earnings of Rs.1766.17 crores with the volume of 19.132 Million tonnes (MT) of commodities during the first half of financial year 2022-23.
  • The earnings of Rs. 1766.17 Crores exceeded the board target for the six monthly period  from April to September 2022 by 38% and by 17.42% when compared to that corresponding in the last FY.
  • At 19.132 Million Tonnes, the originating freight loading registered during April – September 2022 exceeded Railway Board’s target by 34.51% and exceeded the corresponding figures of last FY 2021-22 by 34.92%.

Highlights of September 2022:

  • This growth in freight loading during the month of September 2022 has been fuelled by incremental loading of 0.25 MT in Coal, 0.12 MT in Food grains and 0.1 MT in POL over September 2021.
  • The loading of Coal, Food grains and POL generated earnings of Rs.129.86 crores, Rs.14.56 crores and Rs.30.01 crores respectively.
  • The revenue from Coal loading increased by 21.21% compared to September 2021.  The earnings from food grains grew by 78.21% when compared to September 2021.
