Kolkata Metro Update: Concreting Work Completed at Biman Bandar Metro Station

Kolkata: Construction works of different Metro Projects in the city have been going o­n in the lockdown. A great milestone has been achieved by executing uninterrupted concreting works of a top slab and a concourse slab of Biman Bandar Metro Station of Noapara-Barasat via Biman Bandar Metro project maintaining all Covid Protocols recently.

  • Casting work of a top slab of Biman Bandar Station started o­n 23.06.2021 and 1150 cubic metre concrete were consumed in this job.
  • The casting work of this 47.5 m X 30 m X 1300 mm top slab was completed amidst heavy downpour.
  • A cover was put in place to protect manpower, machinery and newly cast concrete as well as to execute the job without any interruption during the heavy downpour.
  • Casting work of a concourse slab of Biman Bandar Metro station has also been completed immediately after the top slab casting work.
  • This work started o­n 25.06.2021 and 1273 cubic metre concrete were consumed in this casting work in which 20 transit mixers were used to finish the job.

Maintenance Special Services:

  • Meanwhile, Keeping in view the increased number of footfalls of essential staff, Metro authorities have decided to run 62 (31 UP & 31 DN) Maintenance Special Services instead of 40 Maintenance Special Services from 28.06.2021 (Monday) to ensure social distancing in Metro premises and trains.
  • In the morning the first service will leave from Dakshineswar and Kavi Subhash at 08:30 hrs (instead of 09.00 hrs) and the last service will leave from Dakshineswar and Kavi Subhash at 11:30 hrs (instead of 11.15 hrs).
  • In the evening, the first service will leave from Dakshineswar and Kavi Subhash at 15:45 hrs (no change in timing) and the last service will leave from Dakshineswar and Kavi Subhash at 18:30 hrs (instead of 18:00 hrs).
  • These services will ply at an interval of 11-12 minutes from Monday to Saturday.
  • There will be no services o­n Sunday.
  • Essential staff associated with health care, veterinary service, law and order, court, social welfare homes, bank, correctional services, power, drinking water supply, telecom, internet, fire services, disaster management and civil defense, sanitation, NGO associated with essential services, food and beverages, insurance, press, sewerage and funeral services etc. can avail these services with proper ID and Metro Smart Cards.
  • No tokens will be issued.
  • All commuters availing these services are requested to maintain social distancing and all other Covid Protocols strictly in Metro premises and o­n the trains.

Subway Construction:

  • O­n 12.06.2021 a 25 metre long, 11.6 metre wide and 900 mm thick top slab of the sub-way connecting the underground Bimanbandar Metro Station and Jessore Road ( NH- 35) was completed successfully inspite of heavy downpour.
  • Keeping the forecast of heavy downpour in mind, complete covering was arranged at the site to protect workers, machineries as well as newly casted concrete.
  • A total of 275 cubic metre concrete were consumed and all COVID protocols were maintained.
  • During monsoon, such protective covering will be arranged for all the upcoming casting works at the airport site of Metro Railway.
  • It is to be mentioned that the construction work of this 300 metre long sub-way connecting the underground Bimanbandar Station of Noapara-Barasat via Bimanbandar Metro project and Jessore Road has been going o­n in full swing during this lockdown maintaining all Covid protocols.
  • All site workers have been vaccinated to protect them from COVID.
