Kolkata Metro completes the construction work of Pier No-318 at Chingrighata Crossing

The construction work of the all important Pier No-318 (except the Pier Cap) at Chingrighata Crossing (one of the busiest crossings of Kolkata) o­n E. M. Bypass for Kavi Subhash to Airport via Rajarhat has now been completed before the target date.

More Details:

  • Construction work of all Metro Projects at Kolkata and surrounding areas have been going o­n in full swing. In recent years, the long pending works of these projects have picked up momentum and the Government of India has provided enough funds for speedy completion of these long awaited projects where land has been made available.

  • With the help of the Traffic Department of Kolkata, a traffic block was taken from 17.05.2023 for completing this crucial job. Prior to giving this permission, the Traffic Department undertook rigorous trial runs of traffic regulations at this crossing.
  • Once the traffic block was granted, Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL). the executing agency of this project, swung into action to complete this work at the earliest. For this, barricade boards were erected to cordon off the area and all the necessary machinery were brought to the site. From 18.05.2023 to 29.05.2023 construction work of 12 piles were completed and o­n 14.06.2023 pile cap casting work was also completed.

  • After this, road restoration work was started from 18.06.2023 and as a part of this job crash barrier starter casting and sand filling work were done from 19.06.2023 to 22.06.2023. As a result, Garia-bound road over a width of 3.5-meter has been restored o­n 04.07.2023 and o­n the same day road blockade has been shifted 3 metre inside to allow free movement of vehicles o­n that newly restored road at this busy crossing.
  • Not o­nly that, Airport-bound road has also been restored over a width of 3 metre and the road blockade o­n that site has been withdrawn to 2.5 metre inside. At present, RVNL has taken a blockade over a 10 metre wide stretch at this site to complete the rest of the work including the construction of this Pier Cap. With the present pace, the executing agency is hopeful that all the remaining work at this site will be over very soon.

Shri P. Uday Kumar Reddy, General Manager, Metro Railway has been constantly monitoring the progress of all Metro Projects. He has expressed his happiness seeing the progress of Pier no-318 construction work at Chingrighata Crossing. He has instructed RVNL officials to complete all pending work at this site so that people of Kolkata and adjoining areas face least inconvenience for this o­n-going Metro work.
