Kolkata Metro: GM Shri P. Uday Kumar Reddy conducts comprehensive inspection of Victoria Station and casting yard

Shri P. Uday Kumar Reddy, General Manager of Kolkata Metro, conducted a detailed inspection of the under-construction Victoria station on the Purple Line, and the Casting Yard at Sarkarpool. The visit aimed to assess progress and reinforce the rigorous standards expected of these critical infrastructure projects.

Metro Railway (Kolkata), General Manager, Shri P. Uday Kumar Reddy inspected under construction Victoria metro station of Purple Line o­n 08th May, 2024. During this inspection, Shri V. K. Srivastava, Principal Chief Engineer, Metro Railway, Shri Amit Roy, Principal Executive Director, Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) as well as other senior officials of Metro Railway and RVNL accompanied him.

During Inspection:

  • Shri Reddy started the inspection from the Casting Yard of RVNL at Sarkarpool. In this Yard, he inspected Quality Laboratory, Curing Tank, Concrete Trial Room etc. as well as offered puja to start the casting work of the tunnel segment.
  • RVNL officials explained to him about the technical details of the tunnels that will be burrowed for this Corridor as well as their future plan of work.
  • At Victoria station, he was briefed about the methodology that is being opted to transplant trees from the Maidan area to pave the way for the construction of this station.

  • Then he inspected the entire station site here and was apprised about the work execution plan of this station. It is to be noted that the casting work of the D-Wall of this station will start from the same day of the inspection.

Victoria Metro Station:

  • Construction work of underground Victoria station has been taken up. People from different parts of the city will be able to reach Victoria, an iconic place of Kolkata, after commissioning of this station very easily.
  • This station will be 325-metre long and its platform level will be at the depth of 14.7 metre from the surface. People from across the city and suburbs will also be able to visit the Brigade Parade Ground famously known as ‘Garer Maath’ and can enjoy blissful summer and winter afternoons and evenings after getting down here.

  • Barricading work of the area required for construction of this underground station and other preparatory works are almost complete.
  • At first, diaphragm walls (D-walls) will be constructed and then the station slabs will be constructed following the Cut and Cover Top-Down Method.
  • For construction of these diaphragm walls, machinery has been deployed at Victoria station site.

GM Conducted UPI Payment Trials:

  • Metro Railway authorities with the help of State Bank of India and Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS) are going to introduce Unified Payments Interface (UPI) Based Ticketing System. GM conducted the trial at Sealdah station of East-West Metro o­n 07th May, 2024 and purchased a ticket with the help of this system.
  • After successful implementation of this ticketing system in Green Line first, this facility will be extended in Blue Line, Purple Line and Orange Line as well for the benefit of the commuters.Necessary arrangements for implementing this facility in these corridors are being made.
