Kolkata Metro Update: Construction of subway works under progress at Bimanbandar station

Construction work of the subway connecting underground Bimanbandar station to the Terminal Building of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport gets underway from 23.02.2022. This is another milestone achieved on 23.02.2022.

  • The proposed subway connecting Bimanbandar Metro station and the Terminal Building will be 12.40 metre wide, 4.40 metre high and 196 metre long. 
  • For facilitating easy entry and exit of commuters there will be a 24.96 metre long and 10.30 metre wide dispersal which will have two escalators, one lift and one staircase. 
  • A lobby will also come up here with one staircase. 
  • Senior Officials of Metro Railway and Airport Authority of India also conducted a site visit on 23.02.2022 to identify different locations of dispersals and passenger amenities which will be provided here.

Recent Update:

  • Metro Railway has been constantly upgrading passenger amenities in Metro premises. 
  • As a part of that, a new escalator has been commissioned on 18.02.2022 replacing the old one at the South Side of Esplanade Metro Station. 
  • The state of the art Escalator is complete in all safety features and complies with International Standard. 
  • The escalator has been provided with an Energy efficient VVVF drive which reduces energy consumption by 50%. 
  • Moreover the escalator stops or moves slowly during idle time.
  • Aged persons and children will find it convenient to ride on this heavy-duty escalator on account of more flat steps added to top and bottom.
  • Installation of the Smoke Heat Detection System has enhanced the safety of passengers in case of any fire or smoke in this escalator.
