Kolkata Metro update: Maintenance of third rail along North-South metro corridor taken up during lockdown

During the nationwide lockdown due to COVID-19 pandemic, Metro services have been suspended since 23.03.2020. Metro Railway is making full utilization of this period by maintenance activities of various departments which have been going smoothly to keep all Metro assets including rolling stocks ready for resumption of its services.

  • Repairing and construction works of third rail pedestals along the North- South Metro corridor have been taken up during this time in order to replace the old pedestals.  

  • Third Rail which carries and supplies electricity to the running Metro rakes is placed o­n these pedestals with the help of insulators.
  • Reconstruction of these pedestals will give enhanced stability to the third rail.
  • Meanwhile, Shri Manoj Joshi, General Manager, Metro Railway held a high-level meeting with senior officers of Metro Railway at Metro Rail Bhavan o­n 06.07.2020.
  • In this meeting, he took stock of the different o­n-going Metro projects in the city and instructed all concerned officers to execute these projects according to the deadlines while maintaining social distancing and other norms.

  • He has also instructed all concerned officers to maintain all the assets of Metro Railway and keep them ready for commercial services.
