S.E. Railway’s GM, Ms. Archana Joshi releases books on “Freight Stock Maintenance” and “Coach Maintenance”

Indian Railways is the backbone of the country’s logistics sector and carry more than 1.2 Billion tonnes of freight traffic every year over a network of 68000 kms. South Eastern Railway is contributing significantly for Freight loading target of Indian Railways.

  • SER has taken several important initiatives to increase rolling stock reliability and to increase mobility and efficiency by unlocking the untapped performance potential. For instance, SER has modified existing BOXNHL wagons to BOXNHL25T wagons to achieve higher throughput.
  • This will help railways to carry an additional 535 Ton freight consignment in each BOXNHL25T rake. A total of 130 numbers of BOXNHL 25T Close circuit rakes were formed out of the existing fleet of BOXNHL wagons till September’ 21. With a view to make more wagons available for loading to transporters, repair and overhauling capacity have been increased.
  • Other initiatives include introduction of premium examination for steel rakes, twinning of Freight depot for CC Rake maintenance, digitalization of freight stock asset maintenance value chain, etc. As a result, the maintenance pattern and maintenance requirements have changed considerably.
  • Accordingly, it has become necessary to adopt knowledge management techniques for repairs and maintenance of wagons. South Eastern Railway has therefore brought out a useful book o­n maintenance instruction guideline and reference of safety and other maintenance parameters for open line attention.
  • In addition, Mechanical department of South Eastern Railway has taken initiative to issue useful books o­n maintenance instruction guideline and reference of safety and other maintenance parameters for open line attention of coaching stocks (LHB & ICF coaches) for guidance of field staff, supervisors and officers for ensuring maintenance attention as per recommended guidelines.
  • These books have been compiled with the keen interest and guidance by Shri P.K.Mandal, Principal Chief Mechanical Engineer, SER.
  • The books were released by Ms. Archana Joshi, General Manager, South Eastern Railway. The General Manager said that these books will be immensely helpful to staff, Supervisors and officers of open line, carrying out maintenance and operation of wagons and coaches as well as maximising the utilization of rolling stock.
