In a notable event showcasing the integration of modern transportation and dignitary engagement, the Hon’ble President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, embarked on a journey through the Delhi Metro system. Her ride encompassed the Kashmere Gate – Raja Nahar Singh Violet Line corridor, adding a significant chapter to the annals of presidential travels within the capital’s transit network.
Journey Highlights:
Commencing her voyage from the Central Secretariat Metro station, the Hon’ble President boarded a Metro train destined for the Kashmere Gate – Raja Nahar Singh Violet Line corridor. Her itinerary included a traverse up to the Nehru Place Metro station before returning to Central Secretariat. Notably, during her commute, Smt. Murmu took the opportunity to engage with school children, enriching her experience with community interaction.
Historical Footnotes:
Smt. Murmu’s excursion marks the second instance of a serving President of India patronising the Delhi Metro. The precedent for such engagement was set in 2012 by the then President, Smt. Pratibha Patil, who also availed herself of the Metro’s services during her tenure.
On Her Arrival:
- DMRC’s Managing Director, Dr. Vikas Kumar accompanied the Hon’ble President on the journey.
- Dr. Kumar explained about the various facets of DMRC’s functioning to the Hon’ble President and also informed her about the ongoing construction projects.
- The President travelled on the system using an NCMC RuPay card.
